We put the Anastasia Beverly Hills MicroStroke Brow Pen to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

When I learned that Anastasia Beverly Hills launched the MicroStroke Brow Pen, I was instantly curious. As a major brow girl, I finally perfected my everyday routine, but I always thought it could be elevated with a pen that could further enhance and define my brows. With the promise of a 24-hour wear and an ultra-thin, flexible micro pen designed to mimic the look of natural, hairlike strokes, I couldn’t wait to give this product a try.

After receiving a sample from the brand, I got right to work on putting the pen to the test. Keep reading for my full review of my experience with the MicroStroke Brow Pen, from the finish to the wear time.

About My Brows: Thin hair with sparse tails

On their own, I wouldn’t consider my eyebrows to be one of my best features. My brow hair is a mousy, ashy brown color, and the tails are quite thin and sparse. However, when I’m doing my makeup, one of my favorite steps in my routine is filling in my brows.

I currently use the Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil to fill in my brows, and I also like to use the Benefit Cosmetics Fluff Up Brow Wax to keep my brows in place and give them a bit more volume. Wanting to give a brow pen a try, I decided to put my current brow routine on pause and try out the Anastasia MicroStroke Brow Pen for three weeks.

The Product: Made for long-lasting definition

The Anastasia Beverly Hills MicroStroke Brow Pen is a micro-fine brow pen that mimics the look of hair to create realistic, natural-looking brows in a few short strokes. The ultra-thin, flexible tip on one end applies product smoothly and precisely, while the built-in spoolie brush on the other side helps create a seamless blend. Water-resistant and long-wearing up to 24 hours, the MicroStroke Brow Pen is ideal for all brow types, but especially for those with sparse hair since the finish looks so natural.

How to Apply: Shake, draw, and blend

Anastasia Beverly Hills gives clear instructions to get the best results with the MicroStroke pen. First, the brand advises shaking the brow pen and drawing on a flat surface to confirm the ink will be dispensed from the tip. Next, the brand recommends starting to apply the product at the base of the brows, drawing in the direction of hair growth and focusing on sparse areas.

After every five to six strokes, the brand suggests letting the ink dry and blending the product in using the spoolie on the other end of the pen. Then, add more strokes wherever you want more detail.

The Wear Time: Delivers on its promises

I first decided to test out the MicroStroke Brow Pen when getting ready for a 14-hour workday to see if it lived up to its promise of a 24-hour wear. Even though my oily forehead can often impact the look of my eyebrow makeup, I wanted to give it a shot without using an oil-controlling primer to keep any shine at bay. At the end of my day, I was happy to see that my brows still looked full and defined. The arches and tails of my eyebrows looked much shinier than I wanted them to thanks to my skin’s natural oils, but that was a minor detail I knew I could fix on my next application.

The next time I used the MicroStroke pen, I had a gym session and a full day of errands on my plate. For this application, I went back to my typical makeup routine and used a mattifying primer on my forehead and in my eyebrows. While I was confident in the brow pen’s ability to last all day, I wasn’t as confident with a sweaty leg day in the mix. Once I finished up at the gym, I noticed that my brows looked decent. They still had a  bit of a shape and a degree of fullness, but my sweat impacted their appearance. This let me know that the MicroStroke pen can easily last all day on its own, but sweat or a skin’s natural oiliness can infringe on its performance.

The Final Review: A pleasant surprise and new favorite

After testing out the Anastasia Beverly Hills MicroStroke Brow Pen in the shade Medium Brown for a little over two weeks, I really appreciated the pen for its precision, wearability, and how well it matched my brow hair. The micro-fine tip made it easy for me to apply product to my brows without them looking too thick or like there was too much product, and the built-in spoolie seamlessly blended the drawn-on strokes into my natural brow hair.

Each application created realistic, hairlike strokes that helped my brows look much fuller and more defined (especially in the sparse areas) without taking too much time. With the help of my trusted primer, my brows stayed put for hours and remained matte in the process. Overall, I was incredibly happy with the MicroStroke Brow Pen, and I can see myself repurchasing it in the future.
