Bella Hadid Went French Honey Blonde For Summer

When Cannes Film Festival announced it was updating the event's dress code to prohibit nudity and voluminous dresses, it cited "decency" as the main reasoning. There was also the question of distraction—it's hard to focus on a movie when you have real-life Bella Hadid standing nearby in a sheer brown YSL dress and matching latte nails.

Still, the festival's board might have another problem on its hands this year. The day before the 78th festival began, the Cannes princess stepped out with a brand new head of honey blonde hair.

Now, how's that for stealing the show?

The model first showed off the new shade via her Instagram story on Monday, May 12. The selfie she posted featured her blonde locks in an updo with a major side bang covering one of her blue eyes. A few hours later, she shared a quick video of herself walking in a vintage festival shirt with her hair down so we could see the full extent of the color.

Warm and fairly even in tone, the shade Hadid picked is a true honey blonde that reminds me so much of her natural hair color. It's also a great transitional color for any true brunettes who want to go lighter but don't want to destruct their precious strands with a dark-to-platinum bleach job.

There is a mystery here, though (which feels right for a film festival in the French riviera). When did she dye it? I have to imagine that prep happened before she left the states, but Schwarzkopf Professional’s U.S. Hair Color Trend Ambassador Jacob Schwartz is on site with Hadid at the festival.

Perhaps the Supermodel Blonde shade (that Schwartz's name for it!) was an its-almost-showtime-and-we-have-a-hotel-sink decision? However the transformation took place, I know he had his Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Vibrance and Igora Vario Blond Super Plus on hand for her formula. I'm just trying to think about this makeover scene cinematically.

Though the color has a leading role in the transformation, we have to talk about that bang, too. Hadid's Pamela Anderson-esque updo came complete with a messy side bang that trailed down the right half of her face.

With the festival just kicking off, this week is going to be absolutely full of Hadid content. We'll likely see both the cut and color do their thing in all sorts of styles.
