Key Takeaways

  • On Tuesday, August 11, Drunk Elephant is releasing their first foundation: Kamo Triple-Peptide Cover Drops.
  • The launch comes on the heels of the brand’s refresh earlier this year, proving the tween beloved-lineup really has grown up.

While I was never a Drunk Elephant tween, I was definitely a Drunk Elephant teen. I had no business Baby Facial-ing my literal baby skin as often as I did, and yet...

Whatever. It all turned out okay, because the brand has also been there to shepherd me into adulthood, helping to reverse any skin barrier damage that cute pink bottle’s misuse might’ve caused. Earlier this year, Drunk Elephant underwent a rebrand, overhauling their Instagram account with a toned-down color palette and refined imagery direction. Now, they’re really proving they’re all grown up (I guess I am too?) with the launch of their first-ever complexion product.

On Tuesday, August 11, Drunk Elephant is releasing Kamo Triple-Peptide Cover Drops, a full-coverage foundation that bridges the makeup and skincare worlds—and proves that the brand has really entered the new era they promised us. The Inspiration

In a note posted to their website, Drunk Elephant founder Tiffany Masterson wrote that the brand has fielded countless requests to make a foundation over the years. Still, she didn’t want to play around until she knew an original, inventive product could come to light.

“I didn’t want to do it until I knew we could do a truly innovative formula in our uniquely Drunk Elephant way,” she explained. “And now we have!”

Available in 25 shades, Kamo is super customizable depending how you like to wear it. It can be your foundation, concealer, or mixed into moisturizer (or oil, or serum) for a tinted finish.

And no matter how you choose to utilize it, it’ll do everything in its power to visibly firm, smooth, and even your skin tone. Enjoy those untouched pores, young ones. This one is for the girls whose skin has seen a thing or two.

The Formula

While Kamo was designed with the brand’s skin-first philosophy front of mind, it’s worth noting that this is a full-on foundation, not a skin tint—you need 1-3 drops for your whole face. That being said, it offers a natural finish and can be customized to your liking by mixing in a little bit of Protini Peptide Cream (another classic Drunk Elephant setup) or your product of choice.

Boasting up to 12-hour crease- and transfer-resistant wear, the formula itself features 18% amino acid-coated pigments, a 4% peptide complex, marula oil, green tea seed oil, and squalane.

The Review

Bella Cacciatore

“I’m always skeptical when skincare brands launch makeup and vice versa, but this is a really beautiful foundation. I was instantly impressed by the coverage—two pumps was more than enough for my whole face—and how silky and easy it is to blend. It can definitely give you full coverage if that’s what you’re after, but I like to blend it out to more of a medium, and despite the coverage it feels like nothing on the skin. My favorite part is the finish, which is a pretty, natural satin that looks like real skin with a slight glow that doesn’t feel wet or greasy. It doesn’t get crumbly or crusty, and feels light and hydrating all day long. I have yet to mix it with other products, but I love that I have the option if I want.” —Bella Cacciatore, senior news editor
