When A Complete Unknown officially drops in theaters on Christmas Day, we're going to be thrust into the early '60s in a major way. And the best way to make this callback to a bygone era feel a little more realistic? Put some Dylan on the radio and some pigtails in your hair.
At the movie's Los Angeles premiere on December 10, Elle Fanning took the method dressing trend to a whole new level with some method hair-dressing. Expertly done up by celebrity hairstylist Jenda Alcorn, the 26-year-old's blonde strands were teased to the heavens and secured in three places. A sequin bow kept her baby beehive put at the back of her head, while two matching bedazzled elastics locked the rest of her locks into perfect, bouncy pigtails on both sides of her face.

"Last night’s look was very Bardot meets Gidget in 1960’s Vegas, [and] the glamour and fun of that era," Alcorn tells Byrdie of the look. "When our team is on a press tour for a film we like to create an overall vibe and story that’s a nod to the film but yet still current and modern."
In the movie, Fanning portrays Sylvie Russo, a character based on the artist Suze Rotolo who dated Bob Dylan from 1961 to 1964. While old photos of the muse (you can find her on the cover of his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan) show that she was more interested in a shag than pigtails, the volume was certainly present. And hey, as Daisy Edgar Jones' just-stepped-out-of-a-tornado-in-a-chic-way blowouts from the Twisters press tour has taught us, premiere dressing is about more than screen accuracy.

Fanning's hair, which also featured an excellent side bang, corresponded with a custom white Gucci gown that featured sequined and beaded trim to match the hair accessories. Makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe, who knows Elle and her big sister Dakota's faces well, drew on a thick black cat-eye, pairing the liner with some glittery shadow at the inner corner's of the star's eyes.

Save for that very '60s touch highlighting her blue eyes, "dewy" was the theme of the makeup. Fanning's freckles shined through her foundation alongside some very rosy cheeks and a pretty peach-pink lip.

In the end, the look was fun, flirty, and very '60s. She's not exactly Dylan's muse, but she's a muse nonetheless.
