Emma Roberts' Winter Hair Transformation Was Inspired By '90s Julia Roberts

She's so (aunt) Julia.

While Emma Roberts made a name for herself on her own early in her career, it only makes sense that she still earns some comparisons to her aunt Julia Roberts. If I had genes in common with Julia Roberts, I'd want people to constantly comment on our similarities, too.

When the 33-year-old took to Instagram this week to show off a brand new hair color, comments that she looked like a modern version of her aunt in the '90s quickly rolled in. It only helped that the color—a vibrant, warm shade that her hairstylists dubbed "Sunrise Red"—was giving Pretty Woman.

But make no mistake: this shade is all Emma. Her stylists made sure of it.

Emma Roberts' "Sunrise Red" Hair

The work of Nine Zero One Salon co-owners Nikki Lee (the colorist, who is a Wella Global Ambassador) and Riawna Capri (who tackled the cut), the final look blended red tones with hints of orange and golden undertones.

"I created this shade for Emma as she needed to go red for an upcoming roll," Lee explained, noting that the inspiration for the look actually came from Emma herself, when she went red for a previous role in 2017.

This time around, Lee kept her "more on the copper side."

"This multi-reflective tone is perfect on Emma in so many ways; it makes her eyes pop and is stunning on her skin tone. I used Wella Illumina on her base because it’s reflective and natural looking. I then pulled Wella Color Touch through her mids and ends to balance the tone throughout, giving it richness and lots of shine," the artist explained.

Emma Roberts' New Hair Extensions

Perhaps you noticed that the Scream Queens star's locks are a little longer and thicker than normal, too? There's a reason for that. It's the magic of extensions (and Nine Zero One, of course).

"Riawna and I added in Great Lengths hair extensions for volume and length," Lee noted. "Riawna cut her ends with wispy layers so her hair felt light and free. We love this look on Emma—it’s giving a very modern take on Julia Roberts' hair in the 90’s."

Just think: in 30 years we might be saying the same thing about one of Emma's younger relatives when they dye their hair red for whatever new role we have to look forward to. Genes are amazing—and so is the lasting power of a warm-toned dye job.
