Key Takeaways

  • This fall’s top sneaker trends prioritize slim silhouettes, eye-catching finishes, and bold hues to offer an intriguing yet wearable take on the footwear staple.
  • Color blocking is taking on a more autumnal palette, while satin fabrics and jazz-inspired silhouettes offer a sleek option for those who are bored of ballet flats.

Summer was full of memorable adventures and playful style, but now that September has come into focus, we’re excited to pivot to fall fashion. Richer, more saturated colors, cozy layers, and tall boots are just a few staples making their way back into our rotation, but one thing that stays year-round is a good pair of sneakers. Whether you’re headed on a hike, to the airport, the pumpkin patch, or just down the street, having a pair of reliable (and stylish!) trainers is a necessity. While you likely have a few pairs on deck, as we head into fall, you might be on the hunt for a fresh seasonal addition—and this fall, style experts predict a rise in statement sneakers, from leopard and color block designs to metallic and satin finishes.

“For about six years, we dressed everything down: Dad sneakers under dresses, and platform soles under suits,” says personal stylist and style expert Melissa Chataigne. “That era is closing. What’s replacing it isn’t the loafer, but a slimmer, more considered sneaker that reads much closer to a real shoe. The sneaker didn’t die; it got quieter, flatter, and more grown-up.”

Ahead, explore the top 10 sneaker trends expected to dominate fall 2026 fashion, showing the true range of this eternal footwear staple.

Solid sneakers will likely always have a place in our rotations, but this fall, autumnal color-blocking is stealing the show. Think candy pink and plum, baby blue and burgundy, pistachio and chartreuse: It’s a season of high-contrast and head-turning combos. Despite being more saturated than your classic white sneaker, these autumnal pairings go well with just about any fall outfit, whether it’s monochrome, varied, casual, or refined. Need some hue suggestions to guide your search? “Burgundy, wine, chocolate, camel, chestnut, olive, deep navy, cognac, and sand are ace,” Chataigne says.

Slim sneakers have been a mainstay as of late, and brands like Jacquemus, Miu Miu, Fendi, and Simone Rocha show that they’re not going anywhere for fall. “Retro sneakers continue to dominate for fall 2026, with slim, vintage-inspired runners taking on a richer, moodier color palette,” says stylist and consultant Virginia Claussen Bundy. “Loewe is leaning into the trend with earthy, autumnal shades mixed with unexpected pops of color: Think chocolate brown with citron, teal with bright orange, and deep navy with red.”

Jazz shoes popped onto the fashion scene over summer, and the minimalist, lightweight style is sticking around for fall. Also known as derby shoes, the silhouette is essentially a lace-up loafer, giving the classic workwear staple a slightly more everyday feel. While most common in neutrals like black and white, jazz shoes are starting to pop up in bolder hues, like red and blue.

While chunky sneakers are starting to die down in popularity, hiking-inspired silhouettes remain top of mind. The trick to wearing these shoes for everyday outings is to lean into their unexpected styling. For example, pair corded trek shoes with silky balloon pants for a striking combo. “Salomon sneakers quickly rose to style in fashion a few years ago and have yet to leave the scene since,” says NYC-based fashion stylist Brielle Bellew. “The ease of corded sneakers adds intrigue and a sporty flair to any outfit.”

Animal print sneakers have been another year-round favorite, and this autumn, we can expect to see even more glimpses of cheetah and leopard footwear. “It’s the pattern story of fall,” Chataigne says, noting that it’s especially fashion-forward on low-profile silhouettes.

Not sure how to style the print? For starters, it’s a modern neutral, so it’s super wearable. “Leopard genuinely goes with black, brown, cream, denim, and olive,” Chataigne says. Of course, it looks great with brighter colors, too: “The key is not being afraid to mix print and color,” Bundy says. “Instead of treating the animal-print sneaker as the only statement, pair it with an unexpected bright shade to give the look a more directional, playful feel.”

Satin has made the rounds in 2026, proving season after season just how wearable the delicate fabric is with footwear. Heading into fall, we can expect the trend to dainty sneaker trend to continue, but in deeper, more seasonal shades.

“Satin sneakers are transitioning into fall in richer, moodier colorways that make the feminine fabric feel more seasonal and elevated,” Bundy says. “Think deep burgundy, chocolate brown, forest green, navy, espresso, and plum, along with unexpected pops of citron or jewel tones.”

On the topic of satin silhouettes, Bundy says collapsible backs (a standard element of the style) are also trending across sneaker styles. “The collapsible-back sneaker is emerging as one of fall 2026’s coolest updates to the classic trainer,” she points out. “Designed with a soft or foldable heel that can be worn traditionally or stepped down like a mule, the silhouette feels effortless while still being elevated. Designers like Prada are embracing the convertible shape, giving an otherwise sporty sneaker a more directional, luxury feel.”

A more unexpected color that’s been popping up all over is bright azure blue. We have Chanel, Prada, and Chloé to thank for that, as each fashion house released countless blue footwear silhouettes across their fall 2026 runways. If tall boots and tapered high-heel mules aren’t your idea of everyday comfort, a pair of eye-catching blue sneakers is sure to do the trick.

If you’re looking for something more muted, neutral sneakers are having a moment for fall 2026, too. Instead of black and white silhouettes, reach for camel, cream, and tan styles that feel warm and earthy for fall. “A neutral color to offset a funky outfit is what we’re seeing a lot of this fall,” Bellew says.
