Glossier's Newest Scent Is Still "You"—But It's You At Golden Hour

When Glossier You first launched almost a decade ago, it really brought "skin scent" to the modern lexicon. As its name suggests, the fragrance stays very close to your skin, mostly noticeable by you or those you allow to get close.

It was also created to really dazzle when your own personal skin chemistry comes into play. This means it smells a little different on everyone. A great thing, because don't you want to smell like you?

I know I do. Or maybe... I want to smell like me on vacation? Ten years of life lessons later, I know that's when I'm at my best.

On March 26, the newest fragrance in the Glossier You family is arriving; Glossier You Soie.

“Soie is meant to encapsulate a holiday state of mind; inspired by the ritual of dressing up as day turns to dusk after a long, sun-kissed afternoon,” explains Melissa Souto Coppola, Glossier’s Head of Product Development. “It allows the wearer to tap into their own sensuality and enhance their natural skin scent, because the final ingredient is always you.”

The Inspiration

Coppola says the brief for the fragrance was simple: Glossier you, but on vacation.

"Inspired by that idea, Glossier You Soie became a creamy solar fragrance, designed to capture that in-between moment at dusk, when warm, salty skin meets cool evening air," she explains.

Though solar fragrances are typically created to evoke the feeling of the sun on your skin (think warmth, radiance, and sunlit brightness), this one is a "sunless solar" that leans into another key moment of beach-going: golden hour.

"With Glossier You Soie, we knew we wanted to create a fragrance that evokes the seaside at dusk, and that sensuality felt after the sun begins to set on a day spent by the water," Coppola notes. "This inspiration was the starting point, and while we will always stay true to the warm, musky base notes of Glossier You, we remain open to experimentation when developing new impressions of You. When we smelled the final Glossier You Soie sample, it wore exactly as we had envisioned."

The Fragrance

Like its sisters, Soie is a skin-scent enhancer. This means it smells a little different on everyone. It also has the same warm, musky ambrox base note that the line is known for.

"I was a part of the original team who created Glossier You in 2017, so it feels very full circle to have worked on this new iteration that maintains the original foundation and intention, but with a new interpretation," explains Coppola.

From there, Soie differs from its predecessors. It's completed with notes of bergamot, rice milk, tiare water, and evening jasmine.

If it was an outfit, it would be a silk slip dress—"preferably worn after a day spent in the sun." Soie is the French word for silk, after all.

Just make sure to bring a cashmere cardigan or poncho, too. I know You can handle it, but golden hour can be chilly.
