There's arguably nothing more classic than a red manicure. Whether you opt for a classic bright shade or a darker hue, the shade always feels elegant and bold. While the color is most widely worn during the fall and winter, it also deserves some shine during the summer, as it can add a dose of vibrance to your seasonal mani.
Ahead, we tapped four leading nail artists for their favorite shades of red nail polish for the summer. Keep reading for their tip picks.

Classic Red
Sally Hansen
Sometimes, going basic is the best option. Lee, who is no stranger to nail art, advocates for a textbook red nail polish. "I love a classic red," Lee says. "You really can't go wrong turning to classics. But if you want to jazz your red mani up a little, try adding a glitter accent nail. This is my go-to when I don't feel like spending too much time with nail art but want something more eye-catching."
Jelly Red
Cirque Colors
Jelly nails, which feature a sheer finish reminiscent of '90s jelly sandals, have been trending for some time. The glossy, colorful polish practically screams summer. "These nails feature a sheer, glossy finish that gives a translucent, jelly-like appearance," Kandalec adds. They're fun to wear solo or with nail art like aura and gradient designs.
Deep Berry Red
essie
Selena Gomez's manicurist gave us the green light to wear berry red nails for summer. Bachik shares that he used Essies' Nail Polish in V.IPlease on Gomez at the 2024 SAG Awards, calling it one of his favorite nail looks. He describes the polish as "a fun spin on a classic red nail."
Matte Red
F.U.N. Lacquer
When it comes to red for the summer, no texture or finish is off-limits. Green suggests going bold with a matte red. Since the polish is free of shine, it traditionally doesn't scream summer but adds an edgy touch to any look. You can sport a polish that has a built-in matte finish or, as Green says, "opt for a matte top coat over the top of a red polish to create this look."
Glitter Red
Lights Lacquer
Glitter is always a good idea, and seeing the sparkles shine when the summer sun hits your nails feels a little extra satisfying. "Glitter adds a refreshing take to red polish," Kandalec says.
Crème Red
ORLY
Regardless of the season, crème polishes are always a great choice. These opaque, glossy polishes are long-lasting and high-quality. "I love a [crème] red nail," Kandalec says. It is a year-long classic, especially for summer, and it makes you feel strong and powerful."
Press-Ons
Kiss
If you don't have time to sit in the salon, you're in luck. Press-ons are a quick and easy way to achieve a dazzling red manicure this summer.
"This summer, red nail polish is all about exploring vibrant shades, cool textures, and eye-catching designs," Kandalec says. "This is an easy way to bring the salon home and stay on trend."
Sticker Time
The GelBottleInc
"Add a playful touch to your red mani by adding nail art," Green says. "This could be through [something simple] like polka dots. This is a fun and retro summer style that you can make as bold as you like."
One of the easiest way to add nail art to your manicure is with some fun stickers. Whether you add red stickers to a color of your choice or throw some fun gems over a red base, just make sure to add a top coat so they stay put.
