The problem with having an iconic role in your formative years is that people will always see you as that role. Whenever I see Kiernan Shipka in something other than a mod dress and blonde bob, I'm like, "Oh wow, Sally Draper changed her hair." But no, that's all Kiernan—and her taste is definitely more interesting than whatever outdated dye techniques Betty drilled into her darling daughter's head.
To be fair, Mad Men ended almost a decade ago and Shipka hasn't been a true blonde blonde in like a year. These days, she mostly keeps her roots dark. And yet... it's still a shock to the system when I see her sporting something a little different. And her newest, auburn-tinted shade is something different.

Kiernan Shipka's Reddish-Brown Hair Color
Though we don't know who the artist behind this excellent dye job is, it appears the color was done semi-recently. And Shipka's latest appearance at the 2025 Vanity Fair Vanities Party was the best way to show it off.

While stopping for photos and mingling with friends, the 25-year-old let her locks flow down her back in pretty waves. The embroidered red floral detailing of her sheer black dress and dark cherry lip balm she wore only emphasized the auburn tinge in her lengths, which once again started off a darker brown (it matches her eyes!) at her roots. It might've also helped that her curtain bangs were hidden—making us less likely to hone in on that dark color.

Another surprise provided by this look: that length. For a girl who's had two big bob-centric roles in her career, this feels like some impressive growth. Side parted and styled in soft curls, it was easy to see the full shape of her haircut. Besides those hidden bangs, her shortest layer is about chin-length, with the longest reaching midway down her back.
Did the young star get some signature hair color inspiration by hanging out with Pamela Anderson on the set of The Last Showgirl? Maybe! And if so—this is a fun shade to stick with.
