Good hair days tend to feel aplenty on vacation. When you’re back home scrolling through the photos, you might realize that your bun wasn’t as effortless as it seemed, or that the salt water made your waves look a little more crunchy than mermaid-y. At the very least, your hair looked the same as it always does, but sunshine makes everything prettier.
Unless... you have what we're calling a "poolside bob?" If that's the case, your hair looked as good as you thought it did the whole time you were away—and at least a few people at your resort went home and showed their stylists a sneaky photo they grabbed of you for inspiration.
Ahead, learn everything you need to know about this season's most leisure-focused hairstyle: the poolside bob.

The Trend
The most important thing to know about the poolside bob trend is that it transcends the resort lifestyle.
Sure, the cut allows you to jump in and out of the water as much as you desire; you’ll look perfect wet or dry. While your friends are worried about dunking, you’ll be doing laps!
But because your cut looks so good in either state, you need to find an in-between for when you're not near the water. That means styling it with a slight wet look. This way, you don't have to give up your tail but you can still walk on dry land without falling over and dripping all over the place.

The Inspiration
The poolside bob has been a hit as long as women have loved to lounge by the pool (forever, I assume). But no one exemplifies the trend better than a famous vacationer of this day and age: Leslie Bibb.
Bibb’s cut is the work of the legendary Chris McMillan. For her White Lotus press tour, she received styling help from the also fabulous John D and Ben Skervin. Fellow cast member Carrie Coon has also given the style a spin, and we've seen it in the past on Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian.
Do you know what all of these people have in common? They take great vacations. And they have great hair.
How to Get the Look
The big thing about getting your own poolside bob is finding a cut that you love. Even though you might like it a little more when you're lounging on a daybed, you should still adore your style when you're driving home from your ResortPass destination of choice, dreaming about which luxury pool to check out next.

The next step—which also holds a lot of importance!—is perfecting the wet look. Hair expert Nunzio Saviano previously gave us a breakdown: First, towel-dry your just-washed hair, being careful to blot, not rub. "You want to take some of the moisture out until it's around 60 percent dry," he instructs, as your hair should be damp, not soaking wet.
Next comes the product. "Mix together a gel and a cream," says Saviano. "If you just use a gel, it will leave the hair crunchy, and if you just use a cream, it will make the hair look greasy. However, the combo of the two works really well."

Be mindful of how much product you apply. "The amount [of product] needed depends on hair texture, but be careful not to add too much or it will lead to clumps and your scalp showing," Saviano says. "Your hair should be coated but not to the point your hair sticks together too much." Then, comb through and set your hair in waves with clips if you desire. Finish off by blow drying your hair with a diffuser for a little less moisture.
Finally, remember that a bikini is a perfectly acceptable top in many circumstances. And grab a towel for me, please? A sun nap awaits.
