If you're in the right mood, doing makeup can be such a great creative outlet. And living life in the springtime tends to mean you're always the right mood. How could you not be, when the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and everyone's skin is so dewy?
"Overall, spring makeup is about softness and lightness. It’s less about covering and more about enhancing," explains celebrity makeup artist Renée Loiz. "Fresh skin, diffused color, and details that feel effortless instead of overworked are what make everything look modern and wearable right now."
Ahead, discover the 7 biggest makeup trends you'll be seeing this spring.
The Blurred Lip

Okay, let's get this one out of the way. A blur or halo liner finish is the trend on literally everyone's literal lips.
"I don’t think the blurred lip is going anywhere. I love the softly defined look, and I think this is one trend with staying power," says celebrity makeup artist Ash K. Holm, who has shared a tutorial on the trend and gave the look to Lindsay Lohan for the the March cover of Vogue Arabia.
"For the blurred lip, I love Merit’s Signature Lip Liner because it’s really easy to blend. I’ve also been playing with the Summer Fridays Flushed Lip Stain, which is another way to get that lived-in, blurred lip look," she says.
Palette Play

"I’ve always been on team Eyeshadow Palette and I think they’ll be big this spring, especially with people playing more with eyeshadow looks," says Holm.
This playfulness will come through in color selections, especially. If you have a palette with an array of shades, why not use them?
"We saw shades of blue on the runway and I loved Chase Infiniti’s pale purple shadow at the Oscars. It’s a fun trend because you can do it in a big way or keep it subtle with a pop of color at the inner corner," she explains.
Pretty Pastels

Speaking of...
"Pastels always come back in spring, but this year they feel softer and more wearable," says Loiz. "Think diffused blues, baby pinks, and even a wash of white or cream on the lid. I love the idea of a soft pastel that’s blended and hazy rather than graphic. The key is keeping the edges seamless so it looks fresh and modern, not costume."
The shades also play into another great trend: soft color-washed lids.
"I love using glide on shadow sticks for this, especially something like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glidr Sticks. They are perfect for creating a quick wash of color that looks intentional but effortless," adds the expert. "Just swipe, blend with a finger, and you have that soft, lived-in lid that feels very spring."
Bitten Lips

This fits right into the blurred lips trend, but instead of focusing on the liner we're focusing on the middle of the pout.
"It's that 'just ate a berry' look where the color is concentrated in the center and softly diffused out," says Loiz. "It feels youthful, low maintenance, and pairs beautifully with fresh skin."
Dewy Finishes

"Matte had its moment, and I think we’re swinging back to a dewy skin spring. Cream and liquid blush will be a big part of getting this look, on top of your skincare routine," says Holm.
Loiz agrees that "spring is definitely leaning into lighter coverage."
"Skin tints and sheer bases are replacing heavier foundation," says the expert. "The focus is on healthy, glowing skin that still looks like skin, with coverage only where it is actually needed."
Chocolate Tones

"It’s spring and we are all craving that first hit of sunshine," says Elyse Reneau, Head of Global Makeup at Too Faced.
You know what else we're craving? Chocolate. Good thing brown tones, that look oh so beautiful in said sunshine, are everywhere.
"If you are craving warmth this spring look no further than the new Chocolate Soleil Multi-Use Sculpting Pencils. These are your everything tool because you can use them to micro-contour, define brows, and they make the most delicious lip liners," says Reneau. "They make you look naturally pulled together but not overdone. If I could only use one product this spring, it would be these pencils."
Brow Realism

"Brow pens are having a moment because they create softer, more realistic hair strokes," says Loiz. "Instead of filling in the entire brow heavily, you can mimic natural hairs and keep everything looking lifted and airy. It is a much fresher approach than the solid, blocked brow."
