YSL Beauty
Key Takeaways
- Blurry makeup is trending this spring, especially when it comes to lips.
- That's why YSL launched its new Lovenude collection, which includes sculpting lip liners and blurring balms.
Have you heard? Blurry makeup is taking over this spring. We called it last year with the rise of less-than-precise lip liners, and an influx of K-Beauty-inspired formulas and the rise of the "Nina Park lip" have only cemented the fact that soft, feathered finishes are replacing ultra-shiny glosses and glazed donut skin.
And it makes perfect sense. Not only does the trend add a much needed dose of softness into our increasingly un-soft lives, it also mirrors Gen Z's preferred blurry selfie style. The hazy trend feels like the perfect evolution of the "clean girl" makeup that defined the early 2020s, fused with a little party girl edge—it's simple and still feels effortless, with a little something extra.
"It’s still natural, but more moody," celebrity makeup artist Lila Childs previously told Byrdie. "I think Gen Z loves a look that has an effortless vibe to it, and this trend achieves that effect. I also feel like this is the makeup look equivalent to the blurry selfie, it feels like you turned up the grain on an image so it appears more vintage, and if I have to put it so plainly: 'cool girl.'"
While you can wear the blurred trend all over your face (check out definitive guide, here) The easiest way is with your lipstick—something YSL knows to be true. Right in time for the trend to take over, the brand dropped its new Lovenude Lip Blusher, a soft-focus formula that does all the blending and blurring for you.
Ahead, everything you need to know about the new launch, plus my honest review.

The Product
The Lip Blusher is a part of YSL's brand-new Lovenude collection, which is all about enhancing your natural lips with wearable, soft nude tones. The collection also includes a range of sculpting lip liners, but if you ask me, the star of the show is the Lip Blusher, a matte balm with a blurred-out finish. Don't let the word "matte" fool you though, the Lip Blusher has and 84% balm base as well as hyaluronic acid and squalane for a comfortable, hydrating feel despite the velvety look.
YSL Beauty
The Lovenude Lip Blusher comes in six nude shades that are "designed to be worn as a sensual whisper of color or layered to medium intensity." There's #01 Undressed Pink, a warm pink nude; #06 Naughty Pink, a medium cool pink; #07 Ilicit nude, a rosewood nude; #08 Mauve Haze, a nudey mauve, #09 3 AM Espresso, a rich brown shade; and #44 Nude Lavallière, a light cool nude.
My Review
Bella Cacciatore
I've loved a blurry lip look for year, and love that we finally have so many options for a "just kissed" effect. The issue with a lot of these blurry lip products is that they're actually quite drying, even if they're lighter than a traditional matte lip. However, that's not the case with the YSL Lovenude Lip Blusher. It applies just like my favorite lip balm, and feels so lightweight on the lips. It has a soft matte finish with that gorgeous diffused, blurred look that's so on trend. It doesn't ever full dry down so it's really comfortable, and looks great alone or paired with a matching liner. I've been wearing the lighter shades with not much else for an easy everyday look (the beauty of a blurred lip), and reaching for the more dramatic shades like Naughty Pink with a full face. The fact that the baby pink packaging looks so cute on my vanity is just the cherry on top.
